And the River Flowed was commissioned by a consortium of music educators and dedicated to Dr. Steven C. Ambrose, Fine Arts Coordinator for the Virginia Beach Public Schools, in honor of his retirement. Dr. Ambrose retired to his home in “Chic’s Beach” on the shores of the Chesapeake Bay, near the mouth of the James River in Virginia Beach, VA. The constant progression of one’s career and the unstoppable flow of this mighty and historic river served as the inspiration for this work.
